Q: How did you start with your Search Engine Optimization career?
A: I've learnt that on my own, after I started working as a link builder for
buzzbrains.com.
Q: What was your first SEO assignment?
A: I've worked on millionairebombay.com and targeted the keyword phrase "Indian
wedding fashion" and "Indian wedding wear". The website used
to rank till the time I was handling the assignment. I do not know where that
ranks now.
Q: Where did you do your schooling and college from?
A: I was from Gurunanak, Kalyan. Later I did my college from K. C. Gandhi, Kalyan.
Currently I am studying my BSc IT from Manipal University.
Q: Tell me something about the SEO competition. When did you start with it?
A: I started with it on 15th of January, 2007.
Q: Did you do that all alone?
A: No, Girish, Rajesh Megru also joined me later, Girish helped me with the
content and Rajesh Megru helped me with directory submissions. Girish edited
about 20% of the content, and Rajesh submitted the website to about 100 directories.
Q: Where did your site rank when you started with the competition?
A: Initially there where not many competitors, we stood 87th in google.com when
google.com first crawled our website. We stood 15th in MSN(Live.com), 25th in
yahoo.com.
Q: When did Rajesh and Girish join you with this?
A: Rajesh and Girish joined me from the 15th of Feb. We were ranking 4th in
google.com from 10th - 15th of Feb.
Q: You were doing real good, then what happened?
A: 27th Feb exams were there, and they finished on the 5th of March. I did not
bother to look at the rankings during this period. I wanted to focus at my studies,
and I did that. The rankings went down, we lost our important position here.
Q: When did you work with this, after managing your Studies and your work,
Did you do all these from your office?
A: I had planned my time of work. I used to work on this from 11 pm to 3.00
a.m. and sometimes up to 5.30 a.m. and go to sleep after that. After this I
used to catch my train at 8.30 to reach my office at Goregaon.
Q: Awesome!!! You used to sleep only that much 5.30 onwards?
A: Yes.
It was a reach touching interview with Mr. Arshad Shaikh. This young wizzard did a marvelous job, he maintained his website at the 8th position in google.com inspite of his exams at the end of SEO competition. I think if this wizzard was provided better opportunities, he should have topped the competition eazily.
