Step by Step - Keyword Research

July 20th, 2008

Keyword research in short is the process of identifying the words those buyers could be looking for. Every keyword that’s missed during the keyword research is an opportunity gained by the competitor who has successfully incorporated the missing keyword1. So, it’s necessary that our keyword research should always be as good as possible. Today search engine marketing has heavily changed the business process and has become an unavoidable tool for the marketers, and keyword research is an important part of the same.

Type of Keywords used by genuine buyers

There are two types of keywords used by genuine buyers, depending upon their informed or uninformed situation at the time of using the search engines. We can also classify these two types of buyers as, uninformed buyers and an informed buyers.

Keywords used by an uninformed buyer

Always remember that people who are looking to buy Machinery Equipments for the first time are not experts, and possibly are not aware of the technical nomenclature at the start of their buying process.

E.g. Pulverizer is the technical name of a type of crushing machine. People who generally buy this machine from the market start researching for machines asking the following “We need coconut crushing machine”. So possibly these people may start querying the search engines with terms like “coconut crushers”, “coconut crushing tool”, “coconut crushing machines” etc., to get to their required products.

Keywords used by informed buyer

An informed buyer is some one who has been delegated with procurement responsibility for the company, and some one who has in-depth knowledge about the product. These people have specialized knowledge about the product they are trying to buy. These people will always query the search engines using terms, “pulverizer manufactures”, “90mm pulverizers” etc., which are the exact scientific terminologies with minute details about the product.

Keyword Research

Keyword Fingerprinting

Keyword Fingerprinting (KF) or understanding the visitor search pattern by researching the web logs is the best technique to find the actual keywords those people have typed to come to your website using the search engines. After closely watching the KF we come to know that a buyer types almost anything that’s logical to their understanding to get to a relevant website. We after a close study conclude that it’s extremely tough to actually assume that visitors will type only in a particular pattern. Though all the important search engines are known to suggest visitors to use a pattern.

Find Keywords using Competitor’s Websites

Finding keyword phrases from the competitor’s website is the first steps towards keyword research that many of the Search Engine Marketers have known to adopt. But, using this method after closely analyzing the KF gives much more detailed information about the keyword pattern that visitors could adopt.

Find Keywords using Keyword Tools

There are many keyword tools those are available in the market which one should consider using. These keyword tools collect search pattern from various search engines that provide specialized searches those are not available using the parent search engine. Crawlers are search engines those provide the visitors with search results from various different search engines. These searches are then used by the keyword tools to provide the search marketers with keywords search pattern along with the following important data

  1. Total Search Count per month
  2. Total Competition
  3. KEI (Keyword Effective Index)

Things to remember when doing a keyword research

    1. Closely watch the website logs for keyword pattern
    2. Closely watch the keywords used by the competitor websites
    3. Get new keyword by brainstorming
    4. Search Engine Suggest visitors Keywords. This has to be addressed during the keyword research
    5. Singulars and plurals yield different results

    Content planning using the keyword

      1. Never stuff keywords at the content
      2. Evenly plan the content.
      3. Keep information as precise as possible
      4. Research as many applications as possible

      CSS - Using Style Sheets

      July 10th, 2008

If I make a webpage using all the w3c recommendations, how should I make a webpage look cool as well? I think this question is often asked by many of the people who are not yet well very well verse with the tricks of this trade.

      Use CSS

Yes Using CSS file you can make a website look the way you want to. “Cool”, yes websites do look extremely cool when you know to implement Cascading Style Sheets properly. There are even Aural Style Sheets those allow you to format voice to your webpages when used with Browsers those are Voice Enabled.

Reasons you should format a web page using a different document

      • Increases re-usability, once you have created a style sheet, you just need to call that in all the pages you plan to create.
      • Highly reduces the document size. This is essential in SEO (Search Engine Optimization), as the search engines will only need to save a small sized document.
      • Highly improves download time.
      • The look and feel of the website is immeadiately changed, with just changing the details presented in the CSS document.
      • Your HTML page since it has been created using a clean HTML document, you need not worry about re-creating a separate document for your modern, upcoming Hand held devices those are internet enabled.
      • You need not worry about changing the document for any newer technology as this type of making website is a standard. The newer technology has to on the other hand think of using your standard pages.
      • This is a cost effective solution. As you need not worry about making any modifications in the future

There could be many more reasons those one can address with the benefits of using a Standard procedure for making the websites. I understand the above points addresses the importance of using a CSS file. Use CSS and make your website both Search Engine and User friendly.

BUSBY SEO CONTEST – WHICH COUNTRY WILL WIN?

      July 9th, 2008

Which country will win the BUSBY Competition? Was an interesting debate, I come across when participating this competition. As per one of the articles by a leading contestant, 32% it seems there are chances for Germany, to win and 68% for people from Spain. I just had an over all survey using Google’s “pages from country” feature to check the number of participants or rather participating pages indexed by Google from each country. To my surprise this time in this competition the leading number of participants are from India and following India, is Germany.

BUSBY SEO CHALLENGE - Country wise participation stats

      India = 122,000
      Germany = 116,000
      Spain = 3,120

Again, let’s not forget, people from India have won SEO competitions before. So, I am surprised India being underestimated.

I am pretty sure, it will be an Indian, who will take away the title.

What do you all say about this. Please leave your thoughts.

BUSBY SEO CHALLENGE – will SEO Experts in India win?

      July 9th, 2008

Will SEO Experts in India, win this SEO Contest held by busbywebsolutions?
BUSBY SEO CHALLENGE - Country wise participation stats
Note: The graph represents data for 3 countries, India, Germany and Spain. This is provided in response to one of the competitors theory where, it was predicted about only Germany and Spain winning the competition. It no way represents the contribution from other participants in the world.

Ganesh J. Acharya, of India, the SEO for SW, thinks India will win the contest for the keyword BUSBY SEO CHALLENGE. The reason Ganesh J. Acharya thinks so is because this time the largest number of participants in this contest are from India.

Even prior to this competition, with another SEO competition held by seoworldchampionship.com the majority of participants where from India and, it looked like Indian’s were about to win the same. Abhilash Pillai from Spiderroost Technologies, Latur, India ended at 3rd claiming the 3rd price. Also, in the same competition Mr. Arshad Shaikh from Mumbai, India finished among the top 20. He held 9th position in google.com at the end of the competition.

Indian’s from time to time have proven their caliber to adopt newer technologies, and to implement it successfully. SEO, is no different. 100’s of SEO’s are been harvested by this country almost every month. I am sure the number game always has a upper hand when it’s about winning. Today, Indian’s have already topped their name among the world’s richest. The SEO arena could also be soon be also taken over.

So, let’s wait and watch, and let’s not be too optimistic. Mathematics has India on the card, but again, time will speak up.

      India 122,000
      Germany 116,000
      Spain 3.120
